Has Any Man Seen God?

Is It True That No Man has Seen God Or Can see God And If Man Sees God He Will Die?

It is a common and almost a general believe among the Christians and non Christians that no man has seen God or can see God and live. Is this believe actually true?

Let us examine the passages of the scripture where the said statement was made and examine the content and in what circumstances it was made.

In Exodus Chapter 33 vs 11-22, Moses was discussing with God face to face in physically. Along the discussion Moses requested that God should accompany them physically through the journey to prove His supremacy and protect them from the enemies of the Israelites and other nations who don’t worship the same God they worship.

God assured him that his presence will go with him. In vs 15, Moses insisted that God should go with them. God reassured Moses that His presence will surely accompany them but Moses didn’t quite understood or believe God.

In vs 18, Moses pleaded to God to show him His Glory (a sign or a proof). In vs 19 & 20, God further assured Moses that His presence will go with them. He told Moses that he Moses cannot see His face, for no man can see Him and live. From the above scenario, it is clear that God has dua natures, the spiritual and the physical (human) nature. God was relating to Moses in a physical nature (Jehovah) but Moses wanted to see the invisible nature of God, His Glory. God told him it was not possible for a mortal man to see the glory (God’s Spirit) of God.

Going through the entire Bible, this is the only passage where God declared that no man can see Him and live. It is very clear that God was referring to His spiritual nature and not to His physical nature.

The duality of God nature is explained in the statement that God made man in his own image and likeness. Image here refers to the physical human form while the likeness refers to his spiritual form in my own understanding.

Every human has Spirit and body. The spirit of man is never visible. This is proved in vs 21-23. God told Moses to stay in cleft of a rock, so that when His Glory (Spirit) is passing, he will cover him with his hand, when His Glory (Spirit) Passes by, He God in human form will remove His hand so Moses can see only the back of His Glory (Spirit). Here it is very clear and quite understandable that the subject matter is God’s Glory, His Spiritual Form not His Human or physical form.

The Glory of God was clearly demonstrated on the mount of olive, when Jesus Christ transfigured before his disciples. The Bible recorded that the disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ fainted in fear when they saw the same Jesus Christ they have been relating with in human form changed into His Glory.

The glory of God is also explained in the following passages below: Hebrews 1:3 (KJV) Who (JESUS) being the brightness of His (God’s) glory, and the express image of His (God’s) person, and upholding all things by the word of His (God’s) power, when he (Jesus) had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;

Melchizedek was physically seen by humans including Abraham. The attributes of Melchizedek as revealed by Apostle Paul (Hebrew 7 : 1- 12, shows He is God in human form.

Many Bible verses confirmed that Our Lord Jesus Christ is the same God in human form. (See the references Below). Jesus Christ is God. Supporting References: (KJV) Matthew 1:23 John 1:1, 10-13. John 14:8-9 1 Timothy 3:16 Revelation 4:8 Revelation 19:11-16. Revelation 21:1-4 Revelation 22:3-4.

Let us now examine other passages of the Bible that confirms that man can see God and had seen God and lived. Genesis Chapters 2 & 3, from vs 1-end shows that God communicated with Adam and Eve personally before they sinned. After their fall God separated from them. Genesis 18 vs 1-33.

A very careful study of Genesis 18 shows that God visited our father Abraham physically at Abraham’s residence with His two Angels. Read Genesis 19 vs 1-2 for confirmation.

Genesis 32 vs 30. Jacob said I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved (I still live).

Judges 13 vs 22-24. And Manoah the Father of Sampson, said to his wife, we shall surely die because we have seen God. But they did not die. Judges 6:11-22 God appeared to Gideon in Angelic form. He saw Him physically and didn’t die.

Exodus 24 vs 10-11 confirmed that 74 elders of Israel saw God and lived.

Numbers 12 vs 6-8. God warned Aaron and Miriam against Moses. God said He speaks with Moses face to face and appears to him in his true nature.

Deuteronomy 34:10 “And there arose not a prophet since in Israel like unto Moses, whom the LORD knew face to face”.

1 King 22 vs 19. Micaiah said he saw the Lord sitting on His Throne and he did not die.

Isaiah 6 vs 1 & 5. Prophet Isaiah was so much terrified and concluded he was going to die because he saw God but did not die. Isaiah 63:1-4. God appeared to Isaiah again in person. Isaiah even mentioned He dressed in red garment and wanted to know the meaning.

John 5 vs 8. Jesus Christ promised that those who are pure in heart shall see God. John 14 vs 6-12. Jesus Christ confirmed that those who have seen Him has seen God. He never said they will die.

Revelation. 21 vs 1-4. God promised to relocate from heaven to the earth planet. And His children will see His face.

From the above passages, it is clear that God has the discretion to show Himself to anyone that pleases Him. Another strong reason why man can see God now is because God has paid the price of sin of Adam which was transferred to the entire world through His Son Jesus Christ. Before then all men (world) sinned and came short of the Glory of God. God separated Himself from man so that man could not behold His Glory.

With the cleansing, man now has the privilege to associate with his Creator as in the garden of Eden. We are now reconciled with God through the baptism of remission of sin once we accept the Lord Jesus Christ . 2 Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;

PURITY THE PREREQUISITE TO SEE GOD IN SPIRIT AND IN HUMAN FORM

As stated by our Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 5:8, it is only the pure can see God now. Even though Christ has paid the price for sin, one must accept the invitation and the offer from God. The condition is that one must sincerely accept the savior Jesus Christ, confess his/her sin and vow not to go back to sin. He/she will now be cleansed through baptism by immersion in a river in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The moment one has fulfilled the will of God, he/she will have the privilege of receiving the Holy Spirit, once you receive the Holy Spirit, your eyes will be opened and you will see God face to face and you will know Him, the only true God.

John 17:3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. 1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

It is very important to note that the baptism mention above is different from the church baptism. The baptism done in the churches are known as the baptism of repentance or baptism of John. The baptism of remission of sin which guarantees one eternal life is only done in the kingdom of God, Brotherhood of the Cross and Star.
